As part of planning of the 2019 exploration drilling campaign, our dedicated team “turned every stone” in driving drilling performance and overall rig effectiveness.
The result? World’s first dual drilling operations, meaning drilling the shallow gas pilot hole in one derrick and the mainbore hole in the other, only 10m apart. Simultaneously at the very same time!
How? Robust planning with strong support from our alliance partners, enabled with the world-class Deepsea Stavanger drilling rig and crew
Why? Time savings of ~30 hours per well. Cost savings of up to NOK 15 million per well.

Planning for Jackpot
Planning is underway for the Hornet near-HPHT exploration well to be drilled in Q2 2019 on production license 777 in the North Sea.
Will we hit jackpot in PL777? Time will tell…
Tri-lateral delivered under budget
Our team in Trondheim has successfully delivered a tri-lateral infill well in the Alvheim field utilzing the Deepsea Stavanger semi-submersible rig:
- More than 10 km of reservoir drilled
- First well delivered with new alliance model
- Delivered 10% faster than plan
Deepsea Stavanger rig visit
This week we inspected the Deepsea Stavanger drilling rig that has been utilized in this year’s drilling campaign. The rig will be sublet to another operator over the winter period before coming back on contract for an extensive exploration drilling campaign again in Q2 2019, of which we will be delivering well planning and engineering.
The Deepsea Stavanger rig is a sixth generation deepwater (3,000m water depths) and harsh environment semi-submersible that has been winterized for application in arctic conditions. It has a state-of-the-art, highly efficient drilling system, which includes a dual derrick with a main and an auxiliary work centre to facilitate a number of simultaneous operations, in addition to dual active heave compensating drawworks for increased performance, efficiency, safety and redundancy.
Back to Norway
After five years in Copenhagen, new adventures await in Trondheim.
We will be providing our expertise to one of the most innovative operators on the Norwegian Continental Shelf to support them in achieving their clear ambition to become the leading exploration and production company offshore.
